Complete and Final Renunciation of the World

A recognised disqualification under Hindu law — becoming a hermit or ascetic in a way that permanently withdraws a person from worldly and family life.

Example

A father who becomes a sannyasi and permanently renounces worldly life ceases to be his minor children's natural guardian.

Where You'll Come Across This

Appears as a disqualifying condition in Section 6 of the Hindu Minority and Guardianship Act, 1956, and as an exception to the consent requirements in Sections 7 and 9 of the Hindu Adoptions and Maintenance Act, 1956.

Common Mix-Up: A temporary spiritual retreat or a person simply being deeply religious does not count — the renunciation must be complete and final, permanently cutting worldly ties.
